Suggestion: Thanks button

I dont know if anyone thought about it yet.

But I think that adding a "thanks button" feature to the forums would be good.

Many posters get disapointed if they post lots of images, but noone replies.
More users will push a "thanks" button than write a reply.
That way the original poster will see that his work is actually appreciated.

In my opinion, many threads would benefit from the thanks button because that way, the amount of one-word-posts would decrease and make threads nicer to read.

Thanks for your suggestion soild, we always try to encourage members to take a more active part in the forum, anything that might help improve the members stay in here is always appreciated.

As for your suggestion and this is just my personal viewpoint here, (admin of course have the final say on all matters in here), I have seen this idea adopted on many of the forums I visit and I find it a little distracting and it think it has a tendency to discourage members leaving any comments at all.
It's too easy to click on a "thanks button" and move on, rather than leave something a little more constructive.

We like to think of this place as a sharing community, which shares not only material but feedback, views and comments on other peoples efforts and a "thanks button" system might detract members from doing just that.

I go with that, Alkie! Of course it is important to show the poster that his post is liked and appreciated. Anyway pushing a button is a quite anonymous thing. If I like a post I try take the time to write a few nice words or to leave a feed-back. I think this is "goddamn common courtesy", using Gunny Hartmann's words from Full Metal Jacket.

In my opinion, those which actually want to provide feedback, will still write a reply.

The thanks feature mainly adresses users which do not reply at all, or just post one-word-replies.

A thread with 100+ views, no replies, but 50 thanks looks one hell of a lot different for the original poster than without.

But the final call is ofc. up to you guys.

If my memory serves me right this feature was once here and then disappeared again. I dont know why it vanished but i thought it had to do with exactly what has been said, that people posted less feedback. Either that or the fact that threads looks more than a bit cluttered when theres over a hundred thanks mentioned by nick immediately under the liked post. This could be avoided though by only typing out the amount of thanks instead of the nicks who did the posting.

On the other hand, theres already the option of rating threads from 1 star to 5. This is mostly used for top posts, ie you mostly see 5 stars or no stars at all. Its a good feature though since you can actually see how many users have done the rating. So im thinking maybe that feature could be improved instead of adding a thanks button.

Not that I think it's necessarily a bad idea, but isn't there already a defacto "Thanks" button in that we can add to a poster's Reputation? I always thought that was the intention with the Add to Reputation feature.

We had the thanks feature before, it did to some extent reduce replies but I would be in favour of a one month trial if all agree?
